The Remuneration Authority is responsible for setting the remuneration of all elected members. It has recently announced a new approach to setting elected member remuneration and new remuneration levels will take effect immediately after the October elections of 2013.
LGNZ has worked closely with the Authority as it has developed the new model. The LGNZ Remuneration Working Party has met regularly with the Authority as well as providing feedback on the draft proposal.
Our current role is to ensure councils are aware of the new remuneration rules and processes and to forward any queries directly to the Authority for clarification.
Local authority vehicle mileage allowance
Recently, the Authority has had many queries about aspects of the mileage allowance. This paper explains the principles adopted by the Authority in its approach to the mileage allowance, and explains the logic behind the threshold distance and the mileage rates.
