Stand for the Young Elected Members Committee

The Young Elected Members Committee stands up for elected members under the age of 40.  It’s a sub-committee of LGNZs National Council and gives advice about things like getting young people more involved in local democracy as well as supporting Young Elected Members. Read more about the Committee’s work.

Who can stand and vote?

Elected members under the age of 40 are eligible to join the YEM network, stand for election and vote in this election. Successful candidates are elected to the committee for a three-year term.

What positions can you stand for?

Candidates can stand for:

  • Zone 1 representative (1 seat)
  • Zone 2 representative (1 seat)
  • Zone 3 representative (1 seat)
  • Zone 4 representative (1 seat)
  • Zone 5 representative (1 seat)
  • Zone 6 representative (1 seat)
  • Auckland Council representative (1 seat)

And/or:

  • At large (2 seats)

Candidates can stand for a specific seat and for an At Large seat at the same time.  If they are successful for both, their At Large seat will be given to the next highest polling candidate.

If there is only one nomination for a seat, the position will be declared prior to the election hui.

The Young Elected Members Te Maruata Rōpū Whakahaere representative has already been appointed.

The committee will collectively decide its co-chairs after the election.
