LGNZ and the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment asked NZIER to author this paper in order to understand the comparative advantages of the six core cities and broader regional economic data gaps and policy issues.

This report is authored by NZIER who was asked by LGNZ and the Ministry of Business, Innovation, and Employment to look at the scope for a collaborative city network in New Zealand.

This report, Fiscal measures, parameters and benchmarks: Measuring fiscal prudence in New Zealand local government, has been published to enhance the understanding of both the local government sector and the public in general about the issues involved in meaningfully measuring financial prudence.

These guidelines have been developed for councils who want to become more business friendly. They have been produced by LGNZ, in partnership with the Ministry of Business, Innovation, and Employment (MBIE).

This publication, produced in July 2013, is for candidates running for local government. It covers an overview of local government, what roles elected members fulfil, the skills and qualities of effective elected members and information on the election process.

This report, created with BERL Economics, enhances the understanding of the role and contribution of local government in New Zealand’s economic development.
